I made my electro magnets on #8-32 bolt stock, cut to 2" length.
First I wrapped a few layers of blue painters tape over the threads to
give a smooth surface for the coils. I put the tip of the bolt into
my electric drill and slowly wrapped the first layer. I used #30
gauge magnet wire and wrapped 6 layers. Each layer of the coil is
separated by a layer of blue tape.
