Uncoupling machine

Two rare earth magnets stick to the tops of 10-24 bolt stock. A piece of right angle bracket drilled and tapped for 10-24 holes mount the bolts to a tortoise switch machine. Two nuts are used to lock the bolts to the angle bracket once the depth is set. The nuts are too big to fit side-by-side, hence the tapped holes in the angle bracket. I cut one of the mounting "ears" off of the switch machine and used velcro to mount it under the layout.

Magnets and bolts will slide through brass tubes inserted through the sub-roadbed up under the ties. In the "up" position the magnets just touch the underside of the ties. In the "down" position the magnets are far enough away from the track to not affect the trains.
