Bike #3: 1998 Honda VFR800
Bike #4: 2000 Honda CBR929
June 2000 - February 2003 (27,000 miles)

Bike #5: 1997 Honda XR400

In 2000 I'm still lusting after an R1, and am looking for a bike to do more track days with, while still keeping the VFR for commuting and touring. But I was a Honda guy and Honda came out with the 929 which got a reputation as a "tame R1". I was sold! In June of 2000 I picked up my new CBR929.

Visibly, the only modifications to the bike are the Moriwaki exhaust - I really like the rainbow coloring on the pipe - and my trick fender bob. A year after buying the bike, I had the suspension completely reworked: RaceTech springs and valves in the forks, and Ohlins rear shock. I was worried these changes would make the bike feel much harsher on my favorite goat trails but that was not so! The bike felt much more compliant on my favorite bumpy roads!

Addition of Moriwaki exhaust (bolt-on with stock headers and pipe)

The "rainbow" coloring on the can, not too visible here.
